A monthly look at developments and news from Equality


In September:

Equality completed the text of its groundbreaking report, in cooperation with the Roma Education Fund, 'From segregation to inclusion: Roma pupils in the UK'. This pilot research analyses the attainment of Roma from Slovakia and the Czech Republic who had been placed in special or de facto segregated schools and are now studying at mainstream schools in the UK. The report will be published in October. Further information on Equality's website.

On 20 September, Alan Anstead wrote a blog on Equality's website on the trend by governments in Europe to forcibly evict Roma and Travellers: A Call for Solidarity.

On 23 September, Lucie Fremlova sat on the panel of Amnesty International UK's Romani Dreams 2, an evening of talks, poetry, music, film and drama in London to celebrate the richness of Roma culture.

On 24 September, Alan Anstead gave a presentation at the Advisory Council for Romany and other Travellers (ACERT) annual general meeting on the research on Roma pupils in the UK.

On 7 September, Lucie Fremlova met the British Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Sian MacLeod. They discussed the recent events in the north of the Czech Republic, as well as the situation of Roma in the UK and models of good practice in the education of Roma.
